MAIN EVENTS

September 21, 2024 – January 5, 2025 : 17th Lyon Biennale

This edition, devoted to welcoming the other, is rooted in the natural and human geography of its vast home region, as defined by the rivers that wash against Lyon’s embankments, making it possible to ship and trade goods, to transport people and generate human connections, before they finally merge and become stronger. Rivers convey tales of journeys and discoveries, of influence and confluence—each a current that carries us towards the question of hospitality.

September 21 and 22, 2024 : European Heritage Days

The «Living Heritage» refers to the practices, the expressions, the knowledge and the know-how transmitted from one generation to the other which are constantly recreated as the songs, the dances, the rituals, the festivals, the know-howto make links with traditional crafts or knowledge related to nature and the universe. Each of us makes live a certain number of these living heritages that were transmitted to him by his family or according to his social and cultural interactions. These practices are sometimes associated with objects, landscapes or monuments. Living heritage gives them meaning. The UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage gives international recognition to these common practices, which demonstrate cultural diversity. This instrument aims to transmit living heritage to future generations, without freezing it, through safeguarding actions contributing to sustainable development. This theme will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).

EXHIBITIONS

Musée des Confluences

The Musée des Confluences creates conversations between the sciences to understand the history of life and humanity. It deals with big universal questions: humanity's origin and future, the diversity of cultures and societies, as well as the place of humans in the living world. The permanent exhibitions include four exhibitions that are unique in offering an interdisciplinary approach for visitors to explore the infinite richness of cultures and civilisations. By opening up the sciences to each other, the museum reveals new ways of understanding and unravelling the complexity of our world. These perspectives encourage curiosity and invite us to learn with emotion and wonder.
